Matthew Sandalis

Graduate Legal & Compliance Officer - Melbourne

Matthew joined Brandon Capital in 2022.

Matthew Sandalis is an emerging legal professional, with a passion for intellectual property, M&A and corporate transactions. He is interested in legal and compliance matters relating to venture capital, research commercialisation and venture-backed biotechnology companies. Matthew joined the Brandon team to support the firm in its goal of advancing biomedical innovation to improve patient outcomes.

Previously, Matthew worked as a clinical researcher at the Baker Heart & Diabetes Institute, investigating ways to improve diagnostic methods in order to improve health outcomes associated with rheumatic heart disease in Indigenous populations. His honours thesis focused on the effects of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) in cognitive decline.

Matthew undertook a vacation clerkship at Steinepreis Paganin in Melbourne where he gained experience in corporate law and M&A. He also has experience in corporate transactions (specifically mortgage arrangements), civil, family and criminal law. Matthew is also involved in the disability sector, having worked as a disability support worker for three and a half years providing community access, capacity building and independent living skills to people living with disabilities.

Matthew graduated Swinburne University with a Bachelor of Law and RMIT University with an honours degree in Biomedical Science. He was also a recipient of the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade’s New Colombo Plan Scholarship Program for his law studies.
